In hushed tones, I am often asked the question, "What do you do with your horses?" From those unfamiliar with the equestrian world to seasoned professionals, they struggle to comprehend my relationship with these magnificent creatures.
It is a prevailing misconception that horses are mere tools or machines, a belief especially prevalent when it comes to draft horses.
When I casually reply, "I do nothing. I simply love them," I am met with judgment. I am viewed as frivolous, a naive girl who keeps horses as mere pets.
My purpose is to play a part in the changing mindset towards horses. I refuse to let these incredible beings be overlooked or underestimated.
They are not servants. They are not tools. They are not objects for us to assert dominance over. They owe us nothing. In fact, we owe them a debt of gratitude for the world they have helped us build.
Their immense size is matched only by their immense hearts. And I give you permission, should you ever need it, to be the person who keeps a "big beast" as a companion. You will never regret it. Their love will repay you a hundredfold.
